Red Cross in need of volunteers with disaster training

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The south Georgia tornadoes highlighted the need for Red Cross volunteers.

The Wiregrass Chapter in Thomas County has about 50 volunteers. But when a disaster strikes, they need a lot more.

They encourage volunteers to get free disaster training through the Red Cross ahead of time.

"We're just starting into tornado season, and it goes on from there. After tornado season we have hurricane season after hurricane season we have fire season, and then tornado season again. So we're always in a disaster weather event type of season, and we always need volunteers," says Kristin Riggs, Director of the Georgia Wiregrass Chapter.

They also needs donations. The Georgia Wiregrass Chapter says they're lower than ever and grants are down as well.

If you want to volunteer or donate money, ou can stop by their office at 115 E. Washington Street in Thomasville. Or call them at 229-226-2181. Feedback
