State accepting nominations for business awards

The Kansas Department of Commerce is accepting nominations for its Kansas Business Appreciation Awards as part of the state’s business appreciation month in June.

Nominations may be submitted on behalf of businesses by individuals or organizations in the following categories: manufacturing and distribution, service, retail, and hospitals and nonprofits.

In a release, Kansas Secretary of Commerce David Kerr said that businesses form the foundation of the state’s economy and that “given our nation’s current economic challenges, Kansas businesses are perhaps more important today than at any point in recent history.”

The deadline for nominations is April 10 at 5 p.m. and can be done electronically. A printed form is available — at KansasCommerce.com.

The top nominees will be invited to attend the Kansas Cavalry Encampment on June 25. One will be selected by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as the winner of the Governor’s Award for Excellence.
