GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A plane avoids a near disaster after safely landing at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
Airport spokesperson, Bruce Schedlebauer, says flight 2150 took off from Grand Rapids at 8 a.m. Sunday headed towards LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The flight crew reported that the landing gear would not retract for nearly a half hour after take off, so the plane had to return to the airport. It was able to safely land on the ground at 8:45 a.m.
There were 26 people on board including the crew. No one was injured.
Northwest says the landing gear was repaired and the flight successfully landed at LaGuardia Airport around 12:15 p.m. - two hours after their intended arrival time.
