'LetsVote' Movement Goes Statewide

The ‘LetsVote’ movement initiated by TiE Hyderabad Chapter and the Citizens of Hyderabad has gained considerable momentum since its launch early December 2008. The movement organizers are all set to take this campaign statewide as elections are drawing closer, with campaigns built around social goodness messages which will engage thousands of people across the state of Andhra Pradesh.

To make the campaign attract wider audience the LetsVote campaigners have organised a ‘Pledge to Vote 5 K Walk’ on April 5, 6:30 AM.

Making the announcement, JA Chowdary, Convener, of LetsVote movement saidthat the forthcoming ‘General Elections’are very important not only for political leaders but also for every citizen of our country. It is an opportunityto each one of us to speak our mindand cast our votes in large numbers. Our objective is totakethis awarenessto every nook and cornerof India, to motivate people to cast their votes, and elect the right leaders. Let us all remember that ‘No Vote No Right’.

He also added “the mission of ‘LetsVote’ campaign is to engage and build the power of educated masses and the youthto actively participate in the democratic process. Election statistics showed declining youth and educated masses participation over many years. We hope to turn this figure around and target at least a 5% increase, beginning this General Elections”.

Since its launchLetsVotemovementhas caught the attention of individuals, various corporates, students, Election Commission and people from all walks of life. The LetsVote organisers, organised the message through walks, chats, crickettournaments, and are gearing up to go ona PLEDGE TO VOTE "5K Walk "on April 5th 2009.

LetsVote’ created and distributed over 1 lakh free copies of the pamphlet “How to Register for Vote’ in colleges and corporate offices. Hundreds of ‘LetsVote’ volunteers and local partners registered an additional 40, 000 voters in Hyderabad. ‘LetsVote’ sent outmore than a lakh of mobile text messages of ‘Register for Voter ID’ and many people respondedpositively with caller queries and sought information about theVoter registration process.

LetsVote campaignersare giving a clarion call to all the citizens of Hyderabad to come and participate in the Pledge to Vote 5K walk starting at 6:30 AM on April 5th 2009from Necklace Road. This will be followed by its campaign ‘Let’s Go Let’s Vote’ message prior to thepolling dates.
