Dalmia Cement Commences Commercial Production from Kadapa plant

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd (DCBL) announced the commencement of commercial production of the 2.50 Million tonnes Greenfield cement project at Chinnakomerla Village, Jammalamadugu, Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh. The project has been completed in a record time of 22 months and will add to DCBL’s current installed capacity of 3.5 million tonnes at Dalmiapuram in Tamilnadu. The new plant will produce 43 and 53 grade Dalmia brand Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Dalmia Vajram (Portland Pozzolana Cement - PPC) varieties.

Sharing with media the evolution of the company from 1.5 million tonnes capacity to a big player in South India, – Mr. T.Venkatesan – CEO (Cement) and Whole time Director said, “We are already well established in Tamilnadu and Kerala Markets. This new plant at Kadapa will help us to expand into Andhra Pradesh significantly besides increasing our market shares in Karnataka. This Greenfield project is the stepping stone for us to be a Pan India player, thus it is important and close to our heart.” Mr Venkatesan has served in the capacity of CFO & CEO with large Industrial Houses before getting associated with DALMIAS

Mr SK Gupta, Head of the Kadapa Plant, who is involved from the inception is overwhelmed with the commissioning of commercial Production within 22 months from the day of ground breaking ceremony. He has an experience of over 2 decades with top cement manufacturers of the nation and is proud to be involved in creating the record.

“On the anvil is the commissioning of the second Greenfield venture of 2.50 million tonnes at Ariyalur in Tamilnadu. By mid 2009 DCBL’s overall capacity will be over 8 million tonnes per annum.

The state of the art plant with FL Smidth technology from Denmark, is one of India’s most modern cement plants. The overall cost of the project is has been funded through a mix of internal accruals and debt.

The plant has an adjoining self contained township for the employees, with staff accommodation, shopping complex, first aid centre and other amenities. The project has infused new life and will bring in major change in the socio-economic development of the entire region engulfing the location of the plant.

Mr M Siva Ram who comes with a rich experience of working in multi national cement manufactures and currently heading the sales at Andhra Pradesh is also present on the occasion.
