Education: a major focus of Qatar and Qatar Foundation in recent years

Guided by the principle that a nation's greatest resource is the potential of its people, Qatar has been among the first Gulf Cooperation Council countries to adopt a well defined educational policy: a visionary document drawn up as a blueprint to regulate the turnout of the general education system. This policy is based on intellectual, cultural, social and national philosophies, and hinges on established Arab and Islamic principles.

Founded in 1995 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development aims to develop all Arab world populations’ abilities through a network of centres devoted to progressive education, research and community welfare, thus helping build a sustainable society where the sharing and creation of knowledge will enhance quality of life for all.

The headquarters of Qatar Foundation are located within its flagship project, Education City, which is, in essence, a university of universities. It provides the highest quality of education and has attached a community of educational and research institutions that serve citizens, from early childhood education to post-graduate study. Moreover, Education City provides researchers with world class facilities and well-trained graduates, the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded people and the opportunity to transfer ideas into real-world applications. Education City is a place where bridges are being built between different cultures with a view to creating a better future for all.

Qatar Foundation has signed a partnership with the UK's Imperial College London and University of Oxford. Qatar Foundation also works to enhance the quality of life in Qatar by investing in education, science, technology and community health and development.
