HSBC - Fullerton wins LIBA ExQuizite 2009 The corporate quizzing event of the year !

Loyola Institute of Administration hosted the 2009 edition of the annual corporate Business quiz LIBA ExQuizite on Saturday, February 28th, 2009. The Corporate quizzing event of the year received more than 225 team-entries from corporates all over India this year. Hosted by quizmaster extraordinaire Derek O Brien, the quiz was firecracker of a contest among some of the smartest corporate quiz teams in the country.

LIBA ExQuizite consisted of two rounds of selection – prelims and finals. The preliminary round consisted of a written test of around 30 questions related to the business world. The teams were made up of mixed corporate teams each member representing one corporate company. From over 225 teams of 2 members each only 6 teams were shortlisted for the final round.

The 6 teams that made to the finale round were: HSBC-Fullerton, TCS- Cypress, Sanmar- Caterpillar, MMS -TCS, ITC- BPCL, Hindu - Onmobile. The final lap of the quiz consisted of 6 rounds. The points for all the rounds were presented in form of Oscar trophies. The first round started with questions on “famous conmen”. In the second round, the teams had to identify faces of business personalities from garbled images. Following this was the third round was based on general knowledge questions. The fourth round consisted of identifying advertisements or brands through video or audio clips. In the second last round the teams were quizzed on a mixed category questions related to management, history, countries etc.

Prior to the 6th and final round, teams with lowest scores were eliminated and only the two highest scoring teams were allowed to play further. The two team that made it to the 6th round were team HSBC - Fullerton and team Sanmar - Caterpillar. The finale round reached fever pitch frenzy with the buzzer round, in which teams would be given negative marking of 2 Oscars for any incorrect answers.

After a closely fought battle team HSBC- Fullerton (Vinod Rajamani from HSBC and A.P. Alagarsamy from Fullerton) emerged the winner of LIBA ExQuizite 2009. The winning team was presented with were presented with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 from Fr. P. Christie SJ, Director, LIBA. The runners-up team Sanmar - Caterpillar (Deepesh Nanda from Sanmar and Balaji from Caterpillar) received a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. Several other prizes were distributed to the audiences during the quiz for giving right answers to questions posed to them.

Speaking on the occasion Fr. P. Christie SJ said, “We believe that for business management to be current we need to go beyond the books and industry interactions. LIBA Exquizite series strives to achieve this by making business management education more lively and engaging. This year has seen increasing participation from b-schools and corporate. I am sure every one who was present went way with more knowledge and wisdom. I congratulate the winners.”

ExQuizite is a part of the annual cultural fest of LIBA called Chrysalis. The 2 day long cultural festival started from February 28th and over 30 B-Schools participated from all over the country. The fun weekend saw a host of interactive games relating to various disciplines of management.
